Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been hit with a COVID-19 case before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as a member of their content team has tested positive for the infection. As per a report in The Times of India, the COVID-19 test result of the member of the content team came today. He has now been isolated.
Last year as well, the franchise was hit with COVID-19. As many as 13 members of the CSK contingent had tested positive for the infection before the start of the season in UAE. Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad were among those whose tests returned positive. Both the players took part in the tournament after recovering from the infection.
“It is an official from the CSK content team. His tests came through today, following which he has been completely isolated from the rest of the squad. It can be confirmed that he didn’t go anywhere near the players and support staff. So they are all safe and the team will continue to practice as usual today,” a source told TOI.
As per the protocols, the member will now remain in isolation and will have to test negative before he rejoins the team. CSK's players landed in Mumbai last week and have kicked off the preparations for the tournament.
Meanwhile, it's the third case which has hit IPL 2021. An hour back, a report in ANI suggested that Delhi Capitals' all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for the infection. He was in the team hotel.
A couple of days back, Kolkata Knight Riders announced that their opening batsman Nitish Rana had tested positive last month. As per the franchise, he had checked into the team hotel with a negative report on March 21. He tested positive a day later.
The 14th edition of IPL kicks off on April 9. CSK open their campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 10, at Wankhede Stadium. Wankhede Stadium's groundstaff has also tested positive for COVID-19.
