Four-time title winner Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) will kick start their campaign in the 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who are yet to get a title win in the cash-rich league.
While MI will look forward to start their campaign with a win, RCB will have to put their best foot forward in order to save their pride this year. IPL 2021 is being considered as one of the most important seasons of the league, as it would be the last time the franchises get to play with their iconic squads before the IPL Mega Auctions.
Even as RCB will be confident of a win with the overseas all-rounders like Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson added to the squad, defeating Mumbai Indians will not be an easy task for Virat Kohli & Co.
Toss could play very crucial role for a batting-heavy side like RCB after Kohli’s big accouchement that he will be opening the innings with Devdutt Padikkal for the entire season. The presence of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell in the batting line-up will make it tough for Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit to stop the Bangalore boys from setting or chasing any target.
However, Mumbai Indians' batting unit with the presence of established power hitters like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya look formidable enough to crush the spirits of RCB.
Even as we look at the bowling unit of both the teams, Mumbai Indians have a huge upper hand with experienced set including Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Piyush Chawla. However, RCB has a relatively less experienced, yet talented, set of bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Adam Zampa, Washington Sundar. In the absence of experience in the bowling unit, Virat Kohli will look at Yuzvendra Chahal to pick some crucial wickets and turn the match in RCB's favour.
It will be very interesting to see if RCB are strong enough to stop Mumbai Indians from starting their campaign for a hat-trick of titles with a win.
