West Bengal Elections are being dubbed as a mother of all poll battles with Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress leaving no stone unturned to hold its fort, while the Narendra Modi-powered Bharatiya Janata Party is going all guns blazing to conquer the state.
The politically sensitive state, which until a few years ago used to witness intense and violent poll contests between CPM, Congress and TMC, is now seeing the same thing between Banerjee’s outfit and the resurgent BJP. Though the Left, Congress and Indian Secular Front (ISF) are also in the fray, the West Bengal Assembly Elections are expected to be a bipolar contest between the TMC and BJP.
Poriborton
The Trinamool Congress won the poll battle against the CPI(M) in 2011 by promising the electorate to bring in 'poriborton' (change). The saffron party, which has been focussing on its Hindutva brand of politics and has repeatedly accused Mamata Banerjee of appeasing the minorities and neglecting the concerns of the majority community, has solaced the voters to bring in ‘asol poriborton’ and ‘re-instate’ the rich culture of Bengal which is inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore.
