Kolkata, West Bengal: The much-awaited poll battle of West Bengal has started with 30 constituency seats going to polls in the first phase on Saturday. Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is seeking her re-election for the third consecutive term as the chief minister, has left no stone unturned in putting up a strong fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has emerged as the main contender with its fierce campaigning in the run-up to the state polls.
At the same time, the Congress-Left alliance is also trying to gain a foothold in the Assembly by presenting itself as the secular option for the voters of West Bengal. The election to the 294-member state Assembly will be held in eight phases starting today with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.free-online-slots 10-cric.com
TMC, headed by two-time Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is striving hard to score a hat-trick. Banerjee’s decision to contest from Nandigram this time and relinquish the Bhowanipore seat, which she won in 2011 by-election and then again in 2016, has spiced up the battle on the seat.
There’s an interesting contest in Nandigram with BJP fielding CM Mamata Banerjee’s former aide Suvendhu Adhikari against her. While campaigning in the constituency, the Bengal chief minister sustained severe bone injuries after she was allegedly "pushed" by some persons at Nandigram in the East Midnapore district. She has been campaigning for TMC with a plastered leg for which the BJP has accused her of playing the sympathy card ahead of polls.how-to-get-free-chips-in-teen-patti-gold
Humayun Kabir, the former Police Commissioner of Chandannagar, who is contesting polls for the first time, has been fielded from the Debra constituency by the ruling TMC. The former IPS officer had made headlines earlier this year for arresting BJP workers who raised the infamous “goli maaro (shoot them)” slogan at a rally held by TMC turncoat Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal. Debra is also Kabir's hometown where his parents Arsed Ali and Jinatun Begum still stay.1foryou-voucher-betway
Cricketer Manoj Tiwary, who joined the ruling TMC in February, will contest from the Shibpur constituency, Howrah. Tiwari will take on former Howrah mayor Rathindranath Chakraborty, who defected to the BJP from the TMC on April 10 in the fourth phase of the assembly election.
Tiwary represents Bengal in domestic cricket and has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Once considered the closest aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Suvendu Adhikari is giving her former boss a tough fight in the elections by taking her on in Nandigram, setting up the most high-voltage contest in the eight-round Bengal election. Adhikari, former Minister in the Mamata Cabinet, had resigned a few months ago to join the saffron party.
Union Minister and two-time MP from Asansol Babul Supriyo will take on TMC candidate Aroop Biswas, a state minister who is close to Mamata Banerjee, from the high-profile Tollygunge assembly constituency in South Kolkata. Supriyo had joined politics ahead of the 2014 assembly elections, defeating the ruling TMC’s Dola Sen by 60,000 votes.
