New Delhi: The Election Commission on Saturday reduced the period of debarment of Assam minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma from campaigning, to 24 hours from 48 hours over "threatening" opposition leader and Bodoland People's Front chief Hagrama Mohilary.
The poll body had on Friday debarred Sarma from campaigning for ongoing Assam Assembly elections for 48 hours over allegations levelled against him of "threatening to send Mohilary to jail". The EC had also issued a show-cause notice to Sarma seeking senior BJP leader's reply on allegations.
