Moradabad: A married man and his lover are battling for their lives in the Moradabad district hospital, where they were brought for treatment after they consumed poison in a bid to their lives. Police said the duo took the extreme step as their families disapproved of their relationship.
According to the police, Raj Kumar, a resident of Dharak Nagla village in Moradabad district, got married around two years ago. Last year, Kumar visited his uncle’s place in Sambhal, where he came in contact with his sister-in-law, who is unmarried. The two bonded and got into a relationship. Later, they decided to tie the knot, but their families were against their union.
Kumar and his girlfriend went missing from their respective houses on Tuesday night. “On Thursday, both returned to Raj Kumar’s house and informed the family that they had taken poison. Both were rushed to the community health centre, where they were referred to the district hospital,” a report published by The Times of India stated.
Presently, the two are being administered treatment at the district hospital. The report further stated that the family of the woman had earlier filed a police complaint in Sambhal, accusing Kumar of abducting their daughter. The police, on the basis of the complaint, have booked Kumar under IPC Section 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage). The case is being investigated.
