There is no stoppage to the rise in Covid cases in India as the second wave of the novel coronavirus has taking precedence and affecting the states such as Telangana, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, etc. with numbers on the upward spiral with each passing day.
In this regard, 1,078 new cases were reported in the state of Telangana on Friday (April 2) along with six fatalities. For the unversed, this is the first time that Covid cases have crossed 1,000 a day in the state in the ongoing calendar year.
The three major urban centres including areas under GHMC, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri are majorly contributing the most to the rapid rise in cases. They have continued to report a large number of Covid infections on a daily basis. Areas under GHMC reported 283 new Covid infections whereas the nearby Medchal-Malkajgiri district reported 113 new infections. There were 104 new infections from Rangareddy district.
With six fatalities, the death toll has now gone up to 1,712 whereas the total number of positive cases is 3,10,819. As per Friday's tally, in Telangana Today, there are 6,900 active Covid-19 cases in the state overall.
Despite a surge in cases, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar recently confirmed that there will still be no lockdown or night curfew in the state. "It has come to the notice of the government that an unsigned document claiming to be a GO issued on 1st April 2021 providing for closure of shops and commercial establishments etc. is circulating on social media. It is hereby clarified that the above said document is fake. No such order has been issued by the Government of Telangana,” the Chief Secretary told as per a report in Telangana Today.
